Yoko

Game World Design – IT University of Copenhagen, Spring 2018

Yoko is a game world in Virtual Reality that allows the user to investigate an old Japanese woman’s past by exploring her Book of Memories. This is not a complete video game, but can be defined as an “explorative and narrative-based interactive experience”.

A world made of paper: memories of past events will “pop-up”, just like figurines in children’s books

Since I do not suffer from motion sickness when experiencing VR, I was also nominated…official tester!

SKETCHES, CONCEPT, CHARACTERS

Visualization of the Game Concept: the intro and ending scenes take place in a hospital, where old Yoko is lying in a bed and waiting to die. Once the player looks down to the book next to the bed, he/she will be transported into the Paper World of Memories.

Map / Level Design of the first Chapter (“Childhood”) of the Book of Memories. After exploring the second chapter (“Adulthood”), the player is transported back to the hospital, where the experience comes to an end.

Animated objects and anthropomorphic creatures inhabit Yoko’s Book of Memories.
